From CNN.com’s main page today:

The Red River rose to 40.2 feet in Fargo, North Dakota, early today, breaking a 112-year-old record and creating a quandary for emergency officials who can no longer rely on historical data to guide their response…

This is the kind of irrational, reactionary thinking that is also guiding the government’s response to the recession.

Small Talk

We were watching “Little People: Just Married” on TLC tonight.  One of Bill’s (the husband) friends was describing their courtship.  He said, “Bill was literally levitating, he was so happy.”

Megan: He was literally levitating?

Josh: Yeah, he should have said he was figuratively levitating…

Megan:  If he was literally levitating, they should put him in the circus.

Josh looks up, appalled.

Megan:  I mean, he’s a levitating dwarf… they could make millions off of him.

Snow

It snowed about 12 inches here last night.  That’s the biggest snow storm in the Boone area since 1998.  Needless to say, we were shut-in today even with 4-wheel-drive.  Megan spent about an hour shoveling this morning, and then I went out this afternoon and cleaned off the car, which took about half an hour.  Isabella played in the snow until her toes hurt so bad she started crying.  Here are some pics.  I’m getting really lazy with pictures–I’m just not feeling inspired here lately.

On Taxes

Josh: Oh, wow, we get a tax credit in Utah for having a baby last year.

Megan: Do we get anything for having a special needs baby?

Josh: No. There’s a credit for adopting a baby with special needs, but if you have one, you’re out of luck.

Megan: That’s not fair; we still chose to keep her.
